UIBC shows how much spare room is left in your blood to carry more iron.
UIBC is a supporting iron measure hinting at the room your blood still has spare. Combined with other readings, it lets your care team gauge your iron picture more fully.
Also known as: Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity, Unbound Iron-Binding Capacity, Latent Iron-Binding Capacity, LIBC
This isn't a case where higher or lower is better. Your body keeps it in a narrow band, and both directions can matter.

What is UIBC?
UIBC (unsaturated iron-binding capacity) measures the carrier protein in your blood that is not yet holding iron. It reflects the spare room left for iron.
Why is UIBC tested?
Your doctor uses it with serum iron to work out transferrin saturation. It helps show your iron status without measuring TIBC directly.
